The Albanian Riviera is a 130 kilometre coastline running from Sarande north past Himare to the Karaburun peninsula above Vlore. There is no charter base in Albania for the 30 to 40m bracket. Yachts in the bracket reach the Albanian coast on the second leg of a Corfu-based week or as the southern end of a Croatia-Montenegro-Albania one-way. A 30 to 40m motor yacht spending two to four nights on the Albanian Riviera in 2026 peak prices at $88,000 to $135,000 per week from origin (Corfu, Kotor, or Split), plus a 25 percent APA, takes 8 to 10 guests, and pays a one-time port-of-entry fee of roughly €450 to €700 at Sarande or Vlore.
Why this is a 2 to 4 night add-on, not a base
Albania is the newest open coast in the Mediterranean for charter traffic and the operator infrastructure is shallow. Sarande has a ferry port and a small marina; Orikum south of Vlore has a 670-berth marina that is the only practical 30 to 40m berth on the coast. Customs and port clearance for a charter yacht in Albania still runs longer than in Greece or Croatia (typically two hours on entry, less on exit). Most charter operators treat Albania as a side trip from Corfu rather than a destination week.
The Albanian Riviera works as a 2 to 4 night extension to a Corfu charter, a 3 to 5 night southern leg of a Croatia or Montenegro one-way, or as the differentiator on a 10 to 14 night trip that wants something the rest of the Adriatic does not have.
What the Albanian section adds
Ksamil. The four small islands south of Sarande, opposite the Greek island of Corfu. The water clarity at Ksamil is among the strongest on the Adriatic-Ionian frontier and the islands themselves are walkable. Anchoring is straightforward in the bay; tender access to the village beach is the pattern.
Butrint. The UNESCO archaeological site at the head of Lake Butrint, 18 kilometres south of Sarande by road. A morning excursion by car from a Sarande anchorage is the standard approach. The site is empty by 1500 and worth the visit.
Himare and the Llogara coast. The 50 kilometres between Himare and Vlore is the empty middle of the Riviera, with three to four anchorages (Porto Palermo, Gjipe Beach, Dhermi) and almost no marina infrastructure. The Llogara pass road climbs to 1,000 metres above sea level for an inland excursion; few charter clients do it.
Vlore and the Karaburun peninsula. The Karaburun is a marine national park with caves, clear water, and a Greek wreck site at Sazan Island. The strongest swim-day cluster on the coast and the differentiator versus a Greek-only Ionian week.
Weekly rates from origin in 2026
Ranges below are for peak season (mid-July to late August) departing Corfu, Kotor, or Split, before APA at 25 percent and gratuity at 10 percent. Albanian port-of-entry fees and a Albanian VAT exemption for transit yachts apply.
| LOA bracket | Motor yacht (low to high) | Sailing yacht and motor-sailor (low to high) |
|---|---|---|
| 30 to 33m | $88K to $108K per week | $62K to $88K per week |
| 33 to 36m | $102K to $124K per week | $78K to $105K per week |
| 36 to 40m | $120K to $135K per week | $98K to $128K per week |
Add roughly €600 in port and clearance fees for the Albanian leg, plus a fuel uplift of $3K to $5K versus a Corfu-only week. The Albanian premium versus a Greek-only week is small; the differentiation is the itinerary, not the price.
What this bracket does in Albania
Anchorages. Ksamil bay, Porto Palermo (excellent shelter behind Ali Pasha's castle), Dhermi, Gjipe Beach, and the Karaburun peninsula bays. Himare town has a small marina and a quay anchorage outside it.
Quay berths. Marina di Orikum south of Vlore is the only 30 to 40m berth on the Albanian Riviera and holds 8 to 12 in the bracket. Sarande's small marina handles transit and clearance. Himare has 5 to 6 visitor berths.
Tenders. Two main tenders is standard. The Karaburun cave cluster rewards a fast tender; the Ksamil and Butrint runs reward a tender for shore drops.
At-anchor stabilizers. Required. The Albanian Riviera is exposed to the prevailing northwesterly and the afternoon swell at Dhermi and Himare can run 1m through August.
Provisioning. Sarande has acceptable produce and decent fish. Charter-grade provisioning for the bracket happens at Corfu before crossing, not in Albania. A mid-charter top-up by van from Tirana is possible but rarely worth the lead time.
Trip shapes that work
The 7-night Corfu round-trip with a 3-night Albanian wing. Two nights Corfu and the Greek Ionian, three nights crossing east into Sarande and Ksamil and Porto Palermo, two nights returning. The standard way to add Albania to an Ionian week.
The 10-night Kotor to Corfu one-way. Embark Kotor, work south through the Montenegro coast, four nights on the Albanian Riviera (Vlore, Himare, Porto Palermo, Sarande), three nights into the northern Ionian to disembark Corfu. The case for the long itinerary.
Where this bracket falls short in Albania
Vlore as an embarkation port. Vlore has a commercial port and an airport, but neither is set up for charter embarkation in the bracket. Tirana is the only international airport for Albania and it is a 2.5 hour road transfer to Sarande or 2 hours to Vlore.
Marina-based weeks. There is no Albanian marina that holds the bracket on a weekly basis with the chandlery, fuel barge, and provisioning network the bracket expects. Plan around the Corfu base, not Sarande or Vlore.
Bad-weather flexibility. With limited marina capacity, a 30 to 40m yacht on the Albanian Riviera in a sudden weather window has fewer fallbacks than on the Greek or Croatian sides. Captains plan to retreat to Corfu or Kotor before bad weather.
What we would book
For a couples-only 7-night Corfu round-trip with a 3-night Albanian wing in early September: a 33m motor yacht with at-anchor stabilizers and a captain who has cleared into Sarande in the past two seasons. Budget: $108K plus APA, all-in roughly $156K. Booking lead time: 4 months.
For a family of 8, 10 nights in late June Kotor to Corfu one-way: a 36m motor yacht with a strong tender complement and the paperwork to clear three jurisdictions cleanly. Budget: $138K plus APA, all-in roughly $200K. Booking lead time: 5 months.
