The Ionian is the calm-water half of the Greek charter market and the 30 to 40m bracket is the standard family and couples size for the route. A 30 to 40m motor yacht in the Ionian 2026 high season runs $80,000 to $185,000 per week plus a 30 percent APA, takes 8 to 10 guests, and threads the Corfu-Paxos-Lefkada-Ithaca-Kefalonia-Zakynthos arc without strain. Ionian rates run roughly 8 to 12 percent below Cyclades equivalents in this bracket because the meltemi premium does not apply.
Why the bracket fits the Ionian specifically
The Ionian is structurally the easiest cruising ground in the Greek charter market. Summer winds rarely exceed 15 knots, the sea state stays calm in afternoon onshore breezes, and the inter-island distances are short. This means yacht selection in the Ionian shifts from seakeeping (the dominant Cyclades concern) to cabin layout, beach club, and shore-day logistics.
The 30 to 40m bracket is the right size for the Ionian's harbor and anchorage geometry. Lefkada town, Vathy on Ithaca, Fiscardo on Kefalonia, and Gaios on Paxos all carry slot inventory for the bracket. Above 40m the slot count thins, particularly in Fiscardo and Gaios. Below 30m the cabin count falls below the family group profile that drives Ionian demand.
Weekly rate map for 2026
The rate ranges below are for high season (mid-July to late August) in 2026, before APA at 30 percent, gratuity at 10 percent, and Greek VAT.
| LOA bracket | Motor yacht (low to high) | Sailing yacht (low to high) |
|---|---|---|
| 30 to 33m | $80K to $115K per week | $65K to $95K per week |
| 33 to 36m | $100K to $145K per week | $85K to $120K per week |
| 36 to 40m | $130K to $185K per week | $100K to $150K per week |
The Ionian discount versus the Cyclades in this bracket reflects two things: less seakeeping demand on the yacht (which lets older builds compete) and lower fuel burn over the trip. Shoulder-season May, early June, and late September pricing can drop 25 to 35 percent below the high-season table.

What you actually get in the Ionian fleet in this bracket
Cabins. 5 cabins is more common in the Ionian fleet than elsewhere in Greece. The Ionian draws family groups and the 5-cabin master plus VIP plus two doubles plus a twin layout is in demand.
Crew. 6 to 8 crew. The Ionian's calm conditions mean the captain is less of a navigation challenge and more of a guest-facing presence. The chef matters; the Ionian has a strong island restaurant scene, and the onboard food has to compete with the tavernas in Vathy and Fiscardo.
Tenders. One main tender of 7 to 8m. Ionian water sports load skews swim-and-paddleboard rather than high-speed jet sport. Seabobs are useful for the calm-water snorkel runs in the Ithaca and Lefkada coves.
At-anchor stabilizers. Helpful but not required. The Ionian's calm anchorages mean even older builds without stabilizers stay comfortable.
Trip shapes that fit the bracket
The 30 to 40m bracket fits all canonical Ionian shapes well.
The classic Corfu loop. Embark Corfu, then Paxos, Antipaxos, Lefkada, Meganisi, Ithaca, Kefalonia (Fiscardo), Zakynthos, return Corfu via the western Lefkada coast. Seven to ten nights, the bracket sits everywhere.
The Lefkada loop. Embark Lefkada (Marina Lefkas), then Meganisi (Spartochori, Vathy bay), Kalamos, Atokos, Ithaca (Vathy and Frikes), Kefalonia (Fiscardo, Asos, Myrtos beach anchorage), return Lefkada. Seven nights, tighter route, lower port-fee total.
The Corfu-only week. Embark Corfu, then northern Corfu coast, Paxos and Antipaxos, Sivota mainland, return Corfu. Five to seven nights, good for first-time Ionian charterers.

Where this bracket falls short in the Ionian
Open Aegean cross-over. The Ionian and Cyclades are different cruising grounds and combining them in one trip does not work in this bracket. A single trip is one sea or the other.
Zakynthos main port logistics. Zakynthos town's main port is commercial-traffic-dominated and the slot inventory for the bracket is constrained. Plan to anchor off the Shipwreck Beach (Navagio) and the Blue Caves rather than relying on Zakynthos port berthing.
High-end nightlife pace. The Ionian is a slow trip. Charterers looking for Mykonos-style nightlife pace will find the Ionian quiet. That is the point, but it is worth saying out loud.
Two we would book
For a couples-only Ionian week, two couples, seven days in late June: a 33m motor yacht with 4 cabins, Corfu loop. Budget $115K plus APA plus VAT, all-in roughly $170K. Booking lead time: 3 to 5 months.
For a family of 8 to 10, ten days in mid-August: a 38m motor yacht with 5 cabins, Lefkada loop with extension to Kefalonia and Zakynthos. Budget $170K plus APA plus VAT, all-in roughly $250K. Booking lead time: 5 to 7 months.
For a sailing-led trip, six guests, ten days in mid-September: a 38m sailing yacht out of Lefkada with the standard Ionian loop. Budget $115K plus APA plus VAT, all-in roughly $170K. Booking lead time: 3 to 5 months. Mid-September is the underrated Ionian window when the day charter traffic thins out.
Build year and refit
The Ionian fleet in this bracket runs slightly older on average than the Cyclades. Many yachts repositioning into the Ionian from Italy or Croatia at the back end of their charter careers maintain decade-plus runs. A 2012 to 2020 build with a 2023 refit is the realistic value zone. The lower seakeeping demand of the Ionian means older yachts age more gracefully here than elsewhere in Greece.
