A 30 to 40m yacht St Lucia in 2026 peak runs $100,000 to $150,000 per week plus a 30 percent APA, takes 8 to 10 guests, and bases out of Rodney Bay Marina, Marigot Bay, or the Pitons anchorage at Soufriere across the December to April Caribbean season. St Lucia carries the gateway role for the Windward Islands charter circuit and most weeks at the bracket route south to the Grenadines or north to Martinique rather than staying on island. This page covers St Lucia pricing and tactics; for the southern continuation, see the Grenadines bracket page.
Why St Lucia at this bracket
St Lucia is a 27nm long volcanic island with three named charter harbors: Rodney Bay Marina in the north (the primary at the bracket), Marigot Bay on the west coast (sheltered, deep, photogenic), and Soufriere Bay between the Pitons (anchorage-only, mooring-managed by the marine reserve). The leeward coast runs flat in the trade winds; the windward coast does not see charter traffic.
The 30 to 40m bracket fits St Lucia for two reasons. First, Rodney Bay Marina handles the size on Mediterranean moor with regular availability and the UVF airport at Vieux Fort and the GFL airport at Castries support guest transfers. Second, the Windward Islands run south (Martinique 21nm north, St Vincent 26nm south, the Grenadines beyond) sits inside the bracket's weather window for inter-island passages.
Above 40m, the Soufriere anchorage tightens because the marine reserve permit caps the bracket count nightly, and Marigot Bay's inner basin runs shallow. Below 30m, the bareboat market and the small-catamaran inventory dominates.
Weekly rates from St Lucia in 2026 to 2027 season
Ranges below are for peak weeks (Christmas, New Year, and President's Day week in February) for the 2026 to 2027 season, before APA at 30 percent and gratuity at 10 to 15 percent. St Lucia charges a charter VAT plus a marine reserve permit fee at Soufriere.
| LOA bracket | Motor yacht (low to high) | Sailing yacht (low to high) |
|---|---|---|
| 30 to 33m | $100K to $115K per week | $75K to $100K per week |
| 33 to 36m | $115K to $135K per week | $90K to $120K per week |
| 36 to 40m | $130K to $150K per week | $110K to $140K per week |
Off-peak (mid-January, March outside President's week, April through early May) runs roughly 25 to 30 percent below the peak headlines. The strongest value window is late March through mid-April, when the trade winds steady and the southern crossings to the Grenadines are reliable.
What you get in the St Lucia fleet at this bracket
Cabins. 5 cabins for 10 guests is the spec on motor yachts. The St Lucia sailing inventory at the bracket is meaningful because the Windward chain rewards sail, and large-cat inventory at 30 to 24m fits the Pitons anchorage cleanly.
Crew. 6 to 8 on motor yachts, 4 to 6 on sail. The St Lucia crew bench is thinner than Antigua or St Martin; chef quality is the main constraint and the approach is to confirm chef bio and tasting menu before booking.
Tenders. A beach-landing tender is mandatory because the Pitons anchorage runs deep close to shore and the Soufriere beach approach is a dinghy run. The toy spec on St Lucia inventory runs lighter than the BVI norm because the cruise is more passage-driven and less stationary water-sports.
At-anchor stabilizers. Useful at the Pitons anchorage because Soufriere Bay rolls when the wind drops overnight and the cliffs reflect a short swell. Mandatory at the upper bracket end (36 to 40m). For Marigot Bay overnights, stabilizers are not load-bearing because the inner basin is flat.
Trip shapes from St Lucia at this bracket
The St Lucia plus Grenadines south week. Embark Rodney Bay, one night Marigot Bay, two nights Pitons at Soufriere, position south to Bequia and Tobago Cays in the Grenadines for three nights, return through one-way ticket. Seven nights. Best at the 33 to 40m end for the open-water passage south.
The St Lucia plus Martinique north week. Embark Rodney Bay, two nights Marigot Bay and Pitons, position 21nm north to Saint Anne or Fort de France, three nights Martinique cays, return Rodney Bay. Seven nights. Works at all bracket sizes.
The Pitons-anchored stationary charter. Embark Rodney Bay, position to Soufriere for 4 to 5 nights at the Pitons mooring, day-rotate to Anse Cochon and Anse Mamin. Seven nights. The Soufriere marine reserve permit caps the nightly count, so confirm permit availability before booking the pattern.
Where this bracket falls short in St Lucia
Year-round charter weeks. St Lucia season closes through May because the trade winds run hot and the Pitons anchorage rolls hard. Charters past 30 April price down for a reason and on-island service narrows.
Long-passage south weeks. The St Lucia to Grenada run is 130nm and the trip rhythm breaks at the lower bracket end. Yachts at 36 to 40m handle it; at 30 to 33m, the passage is uncomfortable and the trip should reposition by one-way contract.
Quiet anchorages in peak. The Pitons mooring rotation at Christmas and President's week runs at capacity and the cliffs amplify the megayacht traffic noise overnight. Charter clients who want quiet at peak should book Bequia or the Tobago Cays.
What we passed on
Yachts that base year-round in Rodney Bay and skip the southern anchorages. The St Lucia weekly product depends on the Pitons rotation and yachts whose itinerary defaults to Rodney Bay plus Marigot Bay are running a shortened version of the trip shape. We would also pass on Soufriere bookings without a confirmed marine reserve permit; the cap is enforced and the alternative anchorages at Anse Chastanet are inferior.
The pick
For two couples, seven nights in early March: a 33m sailing yacht with 4 cabins, Rodney Bay base, two nights Pitons and three nights Martinique. Budget $105K plus APA, all-in roughly $140K. Booking lead time: 4 to 6 months.
For a family of 10, ten nights at Christmas: a 38m motor yacht with 5 cabins, Rodney Bay to Pitons to Bequia to Tobago Cays, one-way to Grenada. Budget $230K plus APA, all-in roughly $300K including the one-way fee. Booking lead time: 9 to 12 months minimum.
Build year and refit
The St Lucia 30 to 40m fleet rotates moderately. Many yachts at the bracket arrive on the southbound spring rotation from Antigua or St Martin and stay one to three seasons before moving on. A 2017 build or later with a 2022 refit is the motor yacht benchmark. Sail-side inventory in St Lucia carries older hulls; the threshold for sail is a 2020 or later rig and electronics refit.
